Special Education Practicum
For my Special Education Minor I did a Special Education Practicum. I want placed at Dorothy Moses Elementary School with Jennifer Miller. Mrs. Miller is the main special education teacher at Dorothy Moses. I was in her room and I lead groups doing math and reading fluency, comprehension, open number lines, etc. This was a great experience for me to see what goes on in the special education room and the differentiated content. I worked with multiple students K-5 who each had different needs academic, mental, and physical.

Other experiences

Daycare/Preschool
During my Sophomore year at University of Mary I worked at Presbyterian Church Daycare in Bismarck, ND. I worked with kids who were 2-4. Some days I would work with the younger students and other days I would be in the preschool room aiding in any way I could, whether that was academics, behavioral, entertainment, cleaning or organizing, etc. This was a great experience for me because I got to work with very young kids and I got to see the academic and cognitive development of the kids.

Elementary Class Aide
When I was a junior and senior at Powers Lake school I was given the opportunity to be an aide in kindergarten, second grade, and fourth grade. My junior year I was in the kindergarten room and it was a lot of fun. I worked with students who needed additional help, but I mostly worked with this boy who had severe ADHD and helped him to stay on task. The next year, senior year first semester, I worked in the second grade room and worked with groups during reading. I would assist with behaviors as well. In my second semester of senior year I started working in the fourth grade room as well. I lead math and reading groups and lead interventions that the teacher gave me materials to do. The teacher was kind enough to allow me to assess a student in reading (an assessment he had already done so we did not have to worry about data). This experience helped me gauge what age group I would prefer and also helped me to hone my teaching skills before I went off to college.

Preprofessional Experience
For my Preprofessional Experience I was placed at Miller Elementary School in Bismarck, ND in a fifth grade classroom with Katie Roth. Mrs. Roth was very kind and gave me a lot of advise being I was a freshman in college when I had my preprofessional experience. She always encouraged me to try new things even when they scared me. She had me lead math and reading groups when I came and she also was one of the teachers who sparked confidence in myself and built me up.
